Rhythm

My first semester at Ringling is ending soon. I am secretly happy that it's almost over. Not that I am unhappy here, I just need a break. Anyway, here is an abstract painting from 2-D class emphasizing rhythm. Our assignment was to take a video, a song, or an image and interpret its movement through abstract rhythm. My painting was inspired by Loie Fuller :)

Compliments

Good day my fellow viewers :D I have finally decided to post one of my Ringling class projects. This painting was done for my 2-D class and is based off my favorite season, Autumn. I had a really challenging time with this painting because it was meant to be abstract. In the end, I am happy. It seems like my fellow classmates liked it as well. I might change a few minor inconsistencies this weekend, but we shall see.

Sketchbook Pages

Hello everyone! I am almost half way through my first semester at Ringling and I must say it's more challenging then I had anticipated. I love being here but the work is very tedious and technical. All the projects I've done so far are visually very boring (all in one point and two point perspective) so I don't know if I'll be posting them or not...we'll see. Here are a few doodles from my sketch book. The first image was for a class project and the rest were for fun. Enjoy <3

Hello!

Hello everyone! This is the end of my second week at Ringling! Although I am enjoying my time here, it is also more challenging than I had anticipated. Today I had my first critique in my 2-D class and it was intense. I know my piece was not up to my standards, but they really tore it to pieces. I am making it sound more dramatic than it is, but it's really hard to hear people say that they don't find your work "visually pleasing". Oh well, that's what I am here for. I am here to learn new things, not be praised constantly. So, by the end of a long sucky day, I decided to relax and do some research for a new mini painting. I know I show you lots of doodles with promise of a completed painting, but I am also very lazy when it comes to the painting part. Very few of my doodles ever make it past the sketching stage. I want to finish all of them, but honestly I don't have the time right now. I do plan on painting this one tomorrow, but you never know.

Ringling

Well, it's official, I am a Ringling College student! I am super excited to be here, but I am also very nervous. I want to do well, but I am so afraid I won't be able to keep up! Here is a little doodle of me (doesn't really look like me, but I tried).

Wingardium Leviosa

Here's the start to some soon to be Harry Potter fan art. This is not going to be based off the movie characters, but my own representation of them. On the chopping block tonight is the lovely Hermione Granger.

Frustration!

Welcome to the life of an artist I suppose! No one ever told me how much struggle and hard work this was going to be. I guess I just imaged that being an artist was fun all the time; that you constantly find relief and joy in your work. Maybe it's just because I'm still a student, but there seems to be more fight and confusion. I have been especially worried today by my lack of style. I know so many amazing artists that have created the most unique ways of expression. People have told me that it comes with time and practice. Although I have seen great improvement in my work, I don't see any uniqueness coming through. This worries me because, what if it holds me back in school? What if I never find it? An artist markets themselves by their style!!! AHHHHH! What am I to do?!?!? I guess I'll take some advice from my dear friend Liz Lemon.

p.s. I've opened up the comments so that anyone can write me. You don't have to have a blogger account. I would love to hear some feedback :)

New Painting

Hello world! So many wonderful things have happened since my last post! I can officially say that I have been to Comic Con and it was so much fun :D Also, both of my pieces that were entered in Del Mar Fair won first place. One of my works even won best of class and best of show. I'll post those pictures soon. Anyway, here is a new/old mini painting. I did this one a few months ago, I just never posted it. I'm working on a few other paintings at the moment but they are unfinished.

Final Project!

It's official! Finals start tomorrow and I couldn't be more tired! I am really excited for this week to be over, but I am also extremely sad :( I know that I will never see most of my college friends again and the thought of leaving them all makes me cry. Anyways...enough about me....let's talk about art! Here is part one my figure drawing final. We had to cut up all the drawings we didn't like and turn them into a mandala. I really love this project and I spent a long time cutting out, painting, and glueing this together.

Completed Card Plus Exciting News

Here is the final product! I am super happy with my playing card. I wish you could all see the printed version; it's just beautiful. The actual card is really large; I think we printed it at 15"x 20". Anywho, I think my teacher might want to enter my card into the fair. That would be so wonderful, I would love to submit it. On another note, I GOT ACCEPTED INTO RINGLING COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited! Ringling is my dream art school and I can't wait to start their animation program in the Fall.

Queen of Clubs!

Thing's have been super crazy, so that's why I haven't posted anything recently. Here is my latest project, the queen of clubs. For this assignment we are creating our own face card. It's hard not to get discouraged; there are so many wonderful artists in my class. It's makes it difficult not to compare, but I have to trust that with practice and dedication, I will get better. Obviously, this is the not the final piece...I have a long ways to go. But you can kind of see and feel the direction I'm going in. I'm drawing a lot of my inspiration from Art Nouveau.

Bored at Work

I, like most people, get bored at work from time to time. Here are two of today's boredom sketches. These by no means are amazing or proportional, but I really like the direction the first one is taking.

This one makes me think of Pocahontas a bit :)
